Julio Chavez vs Hector Camacho Jr
Saturday, June 19, 2021, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, or if need be, in your living room on Pay-Per-View through Global Sports Streaming’s Best In Boxing.

The word has certainly gotten out. The upcoming clash of the 58-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez (107-6-2, 85 KOs) of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico by way of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico accepting the challenge of the revenge-minded 42-year-old Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr. (59-7-1, 33 KOs) from New York, New York by way of San Juan, Puerto Rico is now set in stone for Saturday, June 21, 2021, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

It’s for sure many a comparison will be made between the patriarchs and their offspring, those boxers with Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry. It’s the same way the soccer fan raves about having the best soccer team be they from Brazil, Germany or Argentina. A devout Boxing fan recognizes how foolhardy it is to compare Julio Cesar Chavez and his record to most any other boxer. His accomplishments will no doubt stand the test of time.

Still, that reality can’t stop some diehards from doing their own overview of the boxers with Mexican or Puerto Rican blood. Throughout our overview, you have to remember that different times bred different results. While some boxers came off the streets, others had the very best of training from an early age or received the proper guidance through a concerned parent.

On the night of September 12, 1992, when Hector “Macho” Camacho and Julio Cesar Chavez battled it out for the WBC World Super Lightweight title it was the Macho Man who got the rare beating.

Hector Camacho (r) and the victorious Julio Cesar Chavez (l) address the media after Camacho’s capitulation, good old fashion ass whooping. Camacho had gone from being his former braggadocios self to heaping high praise on his opponent.

Since his father’s unfortunate passing on November 24, 2012, Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr. has taken over the reins of the family and represented his family in the squared circle.

From here down we’re going to attempt to give you the best possible overview of Hector Camacho Jr.’s career up to this point.

October 23, 1998, at the Trump Marina Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, the 20-year-old Hector Camacho Jr. (17-0, 10 KOs) won a unanimous decision victory, 96-92, 96-93, 95-93 over Freddy Curiel (14-3-1, 5 KOs).

December 3, 1998, Casino Magic, Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, the 142 lb., 20-year-old Hector Camacho Jr. (18-0, 10 KOs) won a 10 round mixed decision win over Wayne Boudreaux (24-13, 13 KOs) in a Super Lightweight contest.

May 8, 1999, Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort, Miami, Florida the 20-year-old welterweight Hector Camacho Jr. stopped the 30-year-old Roberto Nunez (15-3, 14 KOs) in the first round.

After Nunez in May of 1999, Camacho Jr. went on to defeat such notables as Miguel Angel Ruiz (21-5-1), Simon Gonzalez (25-8-2), Juan Carlos Rodriguez (36-12-2), Harold Warren (43-11), Manard Reed (20-1), Phillip Holiday (36-3-1), Joe Hutchinson (18-1-2), Rocky Martinez (34-4-1) and Larry LaCoursiere (26-8) to improve his record to 32-0, 18 KOs.

July 7, 2001, at Key Span Park, Brooklyn, New York, the 22-year-old super lightweight Hector Camacho Jr., now 32-0, 18 KOs was up 49-46, 48-47, and 49-46 after 5 rounds versus the well respected Jesse James “the Texas Tornado” Leija (42-5-2) when the bout was suddenly stopped due to a head-butt. At first, Camacho Jr. received the Technical decision win which a few days later changed to a “No Contest”. Was it time to hire a lawyer?

This may have been the turning point in Camacho Jr.’s career as things started slowing down. He did fight in November, a TKO win over Eric Jakubowski (21-8) but for this fight he weighed in at 152 lbs. He was now creeping ever so close to becoming a Middleweight (154-160).

Above is a collage of photos of the 29-year-old Omar Gabriel Weis (with his record at the time standing at 33 wins, 3 losses, 3 ties, 19 KOs at the time of his meeting of Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr. who’s record at the time was 33-0, 19 KOs.

On Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona, Hector Camacho Jr., at the age of 23 and weighing 147 lbs., lost his first fight, a 94-95, 94-96 and 93-96 decision loss to the visitor from Buenos Aires, Argentina, a 5’7″ tall, 141 pounder, Omar “Tito” Weis who with the win moved up to (34-3-3, 16 KOs).

Over the years we’ve seen quite a few of these boxing standouts infiltrate the U. S. and oftentimes they do well because their opponent is often hand-picked. How so? Since it is an expensive proposition, the airfare, the hotel/motel stay, the hiring of a top trainer, and the proposition they worked out with the obliging promoter, a certain victory is called for. In other words, someone has to have a lot of confidence in their prospect. When it comes to Buenos Aires, Argentina, the names Marcos René Maidana, Sergio Martinez and Lucas Martín Matthysse come to mine. Like Mr. Weis, they came, they saw and they conquered. Weis’ only infraction during his contest with Hector Camacho Jr.? He received a point deduction for a low blow in round #8. Otherwise, the victory was his

Two Warriors Meet In The Best In Boxing Ring

If you missed Best in Boxing on Fight Hub on YouTube you missed a great night of boxing. There was great action in the ring from start to finish but the fight of the night definitely has to go to Mario Ramirez vs Ramiro Ceseña. These two warriors battled it out for six nonstop rounds of action. Normally fighters who’ve not seen each other before take a round or two to figure each other out. In boxing, they are called the feeling out rounds. Ramirez and Ceseña must have skipped class on the day their trainers were teaching how to take your time in boxing. From the opening bell, both these fighters were throwing serious leather with really bad intentions. If you’ve not seen Mario Ramirez fight before he fights really well from the outside with his long reach but knows how to get on the inside and bang to the body. He is not your typical Mexican fighter in that he can mix up boxing with an aggressive “Mexican Style”. He’s not afraid to trade punches with anyone and has an iron chin that makes the possible. Mario is only 19 and is quickly learning on the job. As most 19-year-olds He tends to throw caution to the wind and has no problem trying to prove his chin is tougher than his opponents. Some would say he has a tendency to block punches with his head but at this point in his career he still has much to learn about boxing.
Ramiro Ceseña at 3-0 coming into the fight was a surprise to everyone by the time the fight was done. Ceseña at only 18 years old is also learning on the job but shows maturity beyond his 3 and 0 record. He is naturally bigger than Ramirez and dropped weight to meet Ramirez at the 130-pound limit. Boxing seems to come naturally to Ceseña as he demonstrated the ability to sit down on his punches and time Ramirez like a crafty veteran. One of the major weapons Ceseña seemed to demonstrate was the power in his punches. Sitting down on his punches seemed to generate a great deal of power that would have dropped a less skilled fighter than Ramirez.

Both fighters put their skills on full display as both wouldn’t back down from each other giving as good as they were getting. Ramirez style works off of the jab and has the ability to fire off four and five punch combinations before his opponents can fire back. Ceseña learned quickly to weather the storm from Ramirez and return punches immediately after as Ramirez has a tendency to stay in the pocket a little longer than he should. The first round could have been scored for either fighter but the second round belonged to Ceseña as he was more aggressive, timed Ramirez correctly and continued to be aggressive shortening the distance whenever possible. Ceseña picked up quickly that staying on the outside would not be a great recipe for success. Ramirez made adjustments coming into the third round and took the round by outworking Ceseña and staying on the outside whenever possible. Both fighters adjusted brilliantly to each other as they came out for each round. Ceseña took the fourth round by being more aggressive, closing the distance on Ramirez and landing the cleaner shots. Ramirez adjusted again in the fifth as Ceseña seemed to be resting for the sixth round. The sixth round ended up being the best round of the night as both fighters came in to win the fight. About a minute in the dynamic of the fight changed as the referee deducted a point from Ceseña for a low blow. Fans booed and rightfully so as there is usually a warning before a referee will take a point for a low blow. Now the replay did catch multiple times Ceseña hitting Ramirez below the belt but none of those low blows were ever caught by the referee and he was never warned earlier in the fight. This seemed to enrage Ceseña as he attacked Ramirez relentlessly as soon as the fight resumed. In the first attack by Ceseña after the restart, he hit paydirt with a left punch right down the middle hitting Ramirez below the ribcage. Ramirez immediately went down to a knee as he gasped to regain the oxygen that left his body from the punch. Ramirez took his eight count got back to his feet and prepared to restart still trying to regain his lost oxygen. Ceseña attacked again hoping to finish the fight before the end of the sixth round. Mario backed up trying to get Ceseña off of him with a jab here and there as Ceseña threw everything he had at him. To Mario’s credit and conditioning he was able to regain his breath and within a minute looked like himself again. He began to counter and fire off three and four punch combinations as the fight drew to a close. When the bell rang both fighters had given it their all and it was in the hands of the judges. To find out what happened and to see the fight for yourself go to Fight Hub TV on Youtube or bestinboxing.com to watch the full fight and see the decision.
